Experiment Overview
INFUZE is exploring different ways of using cars designed with, by, and for communities across Leeds. Our first experiment: Car When We Need It, is currently in progress. We’re exploring how having easy access to a car, only when it’s needed, could work for local communities throughout Leeds. The experiment is now fully booked, but we have more coming in 2026, and we’d love for you to get involved! Your ideas and experiences will help guide the future of how we move and live in Leeds.

What will I be doing?
You’ll be invited to choose between two experiment options. Both experiments would last for three consecutive weeks from November to December 2025.
Option 1: We Share
You can join We Share with a group of two or more households (friends, family, neighbours, sports club buddies, or even coworkers). One household would provide their car on the Hiyacar app platform for the rest of your group to use. The other households would agree not to use their own cars. Instead, only you and other chosen members would use the chosen shared car. All car-sharing will be organised through Hiyacar’s specialist platform, meaning you will use this to directly arrange and confirm bookings.
Option 2: My Days –
For My Days, we would ask your household to sign up for access to a community car that is provided by Hiyacar and is available for use 1-3 days a week. Before the experiment begins, our friendly INFUZE Trial Officer will work with you to agree on which days you’ll use the car to share with others. During this time, we would also ask you to take a break from using your own car and try out the community car instead.
The research
If either experiment takes place in your area, we’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire and then share your thoughts by taking part in two friendly research chats (lasting around 1 hour). These will happen before and after the experiment period. We may also ask you to download an app on your phone (with your permission), which will help our INFUZE researchers learn a bit more about your journeys.
What will I get out of the experiment?
Your time and experiences are incredibly valuable to us. After all, you are helping to shape the future of how we get around Leeds! To say thank you, you’ll be offered two types of thank-you gifts.
Gift 1: Research Thank You
For each part of the research you contribute to, you’ll get a thank-you payment:
- Onboarding and App setup: £25
- Before Interview: £25
- Exit Interview: £25
- Data checking in the app: £25
Gift 2: Thank You for not using your car
If you don’t use your car, you’ll receive an additional thank you payment of £35 to £70 per week, depending on the value of your car and/or your finance payment (whichever is the larger amount).
